In Adobe Illustrator, barcodes are always created as individual page items, giving you the flexibility to edit, move, and transform them just like any other Illustrator element.
Overview
New barcode = new page item. Each time you create a barcode, BarcodeMaker places it as a new page item.
Editing a barcode. To make changes, select the barcode item and adjust settings in the BarcodeMaker panel.
Transforming a barcode. Only rotation is preserved. Other transformations (resize, skew, distort) will be lost when the barcode is updated through the BarcodeMaker panel.
Creating a New Barcode
-
Open the Barcode dropdown at the top of the BarcodeMaker panel.
-
Browse the list of barcode categories, or quickly filter by typing the barcode name or abbreviation.
For example: typing “isb” filters the list to show only the ISBN barcode.
Select the barcode type you want. Then:
If no page item is selected, a new page item is created.
If a page item is selected, that page item will be replaced with the barcode.
Editing a Barcode
When a barcode item is active, the BarcodeMaker panel shows options for editing.
Encoded Data
The top field displays the data encoded in the barcode (e.g., ISBN, UPC, etc.).
By default, barcodes are created with placeholder values—replace them with your actual data.
Barcode Parameters
Each barcode type has customizable parameters.
Common options include:
Color
Font and Text Size
Horizontal/Vertical Offsets
Some barcode types include special settings. For example: QR Codes offer Error Correction Level and Version options.
